Chiropractic: Why so quick?
Have you ever wondered why your chiropractor pushes so quick during an adjustment? Simply put, the quickness stimulates neurological receptors in your tissue that allow your muscles to instantly relax. This, in turn, allows your joints to move easier and that is why you feel a great sense of relief right after an adjustment.

Sensible Snacking:
Eating smaller, more frequent good snacks can help balance your metabolism and mood, which will help maintain your energy levels. Try to avoid snacks high in trans fat, high-fructose corn syrup and processed sugar. Look for good things like: whole grains, fiber, protein, fruits, nuts, seeds, and omega-3s. Choose snacks that are minimally processed, free of highly refined sweeteners, and artifificial ingredients.

December 2011

Season Greetings Dear Friends and Patients,

As 2011 is winding down I’m thankful we have grown this year.  Seeing more patients and being able to help more people is why I love getting up and going to work each day.  Because of this growth my daughter Amanda has been helping me in the office several times a week.  So if you call and get a female voice it's not me.  Amanda is also doing the monthly email newsletter and weekly updates on Facebook.  We also have a new website at: drnorrischiro.com.  Hopefully the content on these sites will inform and entertain you.   We try to have helpful information and fun facts.  You can subscribe to the newsletter on our website.  For instance here are some fun facts about the holiday season.

-The world’s largest Christmas present was the Statue of Liberty. The French gave it to the US in 1886. It is 46.5 meters high and weights 225 tons!

-"It's a Wonderful Life" appears on TV more often than any other holiday movie.

-Q: Why are candy canes bent? A: In 1670, a choirmaster in Cologne, Germany, bent the ends of candy sticks to resemble a shepherd's staff and handed them out to children during church services to keep them quiet.

- For centuries, St. Nicholas has been remembered by Christians for his generosity toward children and the poor. The real St. Nicholas lived in Turkey, where he served as bishop in the town of Myra, during the fourth century.

- According to Dutch legend, Sinter Klaas (St. Nicholas) brought gifts at Christmastime, either through an open window or down a chimney.

- In New York, it's not officially Christmastime until the tree is lit at Rockefeller Center. The first tree appeared in 1931, during the Great Depression.

-"White Christmas" has sold more than 100 million copies around the world. The song was written by Irving Berlin and recorded by Bing Crosby in 1942.

- The time-honored tradition of sending Christmas cards began more than 150 years ago in England.

-In 1822, Clement Moore composed his famous poem, "The Night Before Christmas," creating the modern image of Santa Claus as a jolly old fat man in a red suit.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

NOVEMBER A TIME TO BE GRATEFUL
November 2011

Hello Dear Friends and Patients,
This month is Thanksgiving.  A time when we should stop to realize how blessed we truly are.  Now days it is easy to lose our perspective on the present and future.  I remember the good old days when… you can fill in the blank.  But as bad as things are we can always remember the good times.  Here is a recent internet article for your consideration.  Be thankful.
To Those of Us Born
Between 1925 - 1970:

No matter what our kids
and the new generation
think about us,

WE ARE AWESOME !!!

OUR Lives are LIVING PROOF !!!
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930s, ’40, '50s, '60s and '70s!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who may have smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then, after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets, and, when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps, not helmets, on our heads.
As infants and children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.
Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter, and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And we weren't overweight.
WHY?

Because we were always outside playing...that's why!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. --And, we were OKAY.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes.. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Play Stations, Nintendos and X-boxes.
There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVDs, no surround-sound or CDs, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.
WE HAD FRIENDS
and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth, and there were no lawsuits from those accidents.
We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping-pong paddles, or just a bare hand, and no one would call child services to report abuse.
We ate worms, and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls, and -although we were told it would happen- we did not put out very many eyes.
We knew that are fathers had guns, and we knew enough to leave them alone, not take them to school to show our friends.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.
Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers, and inventors ever.
The past 50 to 85 years have seen an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
If YOU are one of those born between 1940-1970,
CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.
While you are at it, forward it to your kids, so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?
Have a great month.

Dr. Michael H. Norris

THE BEST HEALTH CARE AVAILABLE

Hi Everyone, Dr. Norris here.

Just like auto mechanics, politicians and lawyers… some are better than others.  Sometimes we have to learn the hard way… by trial and error.  Medical doctors and chiropractors are the same.  There are some very good health-care professionals here in the Antelope Valley and unfortunately there are some bad ones.  With that said I have a question for you.

If you could afford the best health care available whom and what would you choose?

From practical experience I can tell you that the most expensive and the most popular may not always be the best.  Otherwise the New York Yankees would win the World Series every year.  They have won 27 times, but not every year.

If we look at those people for whom money is not an issue… chiropractic health care is often the choice.  Professional athletes, actors and celebrities can afford any kind of care, but statistics show they choose chiropractic.  Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith and Cal Ripken all see their doctors for regular chiropractic treatments.  They have commented that it prolonged their careers. NBA superstar Kobe Bryant said “I think chiropractic adjustments have helped me get through the long basketball season without a lot of injuries.”

Approximately 31% of NFL teams have a chiropractor on staff and 39% of all Division I athletes said they use chiropractic either to get into top shape or to stay there. Many say chiropractic helps them to get into top physical shape without the use of drugs. Sean Atkins, PhD, Exercise Physiologist stated "I would estimate that in excess of 90% of all world-class athletes use chiropractic care to prevent injuries and to increase their performance potential."

The television show Dancing With The Stars has a doctor of Chiropractic on staff for the performers.  The Professional Golf Association, the U.S. Olympic Association and the Professional Rodeo Circuit have chiropractors on staff.

In 1984 I was working with the Olympic water polo team when I meet Terry Schroeder the team captain of the silver medal team.  He was so impressed by the profession that he became a chiropractor and now practices in Calabasas, CA.

Other chiropractic regulars include Warren Beatty, James Earl Jones, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jack Nicholson, Julie Andrews, Jane Seymour, and Mel Gibson.

Kevin Jonas, Sr.- Manager of Jonas Brothers states... "Chiropractic care promotes a healthy body, mind and lifestyle. I have found, with regular chiropractic care, our family stays healthier and sleeps better. We are more relaxed and stress is easily overcome."

No one would claim celebrities have all the answers. However, it would seem that with all the options celebrity affords them, the fact they seek chiropractic care to meet their health-care needs says something about the value of chiropractic for optimum health!

I am very honored that you have choose me as your chiropractor of choice.
I promise to provide you the best health care available.  I hope to see you soon.

P.S.- Sorry Red Sox fans… even the New York Yankees have a chiropractor on their staff.

Pain as your health guide?
“Only 10% of our nervous system perceives pain.”  The rest of your nervous system is busy monitoring, controlling and communicating, back and forth from your brain to your body.  So how do you know if it is functioning properly?  Chiropractic enhances proper spinal motion and proper spinal motion can help maximize nervous system function.  Grays Anatomy

Hi there… again!

Hi Everyone, Dr. Norris here.

I hope you are having a great summer.  It ends officially September 23rd.  So do something fun.

We have been making some changes at Norris Chiropractic.  This newsletter is new.  I will be sending it out to all of you each month.  It is shorter but will be filled with information about my office, your health and healthcare in general.  If you no longer want to receive this newsletter you can use the opt-out option contained in this email.  The newsletter will not be snail-mailed through the post office unless you specifically ask for it.  This saves us a considerable expense… and that helps us keep our fees low.  If you check around the Antelope Valley you will find that Norris Chiropractic has the lowest fees for chiropractic care without cutting back our services.

We also have a new website.
Check it out at: drnorrischiro.com
This newsletter and a blog will be available at the site.
Please don’t laugh at my picture... I was born this way.

I would like to thank David Kraemer at DK designs for his help in setting up the site.  David is a patient of mine and he does great work.  If you need website help let me know, I can give you a referral.

I would like to welcome my daughter Amanda to Norris Chiropractic.  She is working three days a week helping me with this newsletter and keeping me out of trouble.

We have some more changes coming.  I will keep you updated.

As always we will be here every week for appointments if you need our services.

Do those funny looking toning shoes really help?
Can a pair of shoes help burn more calories, tone your bottom and easy joint pain?  These shoes have an unstable, strongly curved sole.  Walking in them is like exercising on a balance or wobble board at the gym.  Advocates say the instability forces you to use muscles you otherwise would not use (namely those in your feet, legs, rear-end and abs), possibly resulting in weight loss.  The shoes can also change posture and gait taking pressure off of achy, overused joints.
